Analyzing Composition Errors Among Eighth Grade Students of SMP RK Bintang Timur

The purpose of this research was to find out the errors made by the eighth-grade students of SMP RK Bintang Timur in their composition in the academic year of 2022/2023. Errors were analysed based on linguistic category taxonomy. Linguistic category taxonomy consists of morphology and syntax. The population of this research is 32 students and 17 students are taken the sample. Based on the result of the data analysis, there are 99 errors made by the students on their compositions. Morphological errors are 46 (46%) and syntactical errors are 53 (54%). Morphological errors that students made in morphological of linguistics category are definite article incorrect 5 (11%), possessive incorrect 7 (15%), third person singular verb incorrect 12 (30%), past participle incorrect 6 (13%) and comparative adj/adv incorrect 2 (4%). In syntax there are noun phrase 13 (25%), verb phrase 6 (11%), verb-adverb construction 18 (34%), word order 12 (23%) and some transformation 4 (8%).
